The Boatshed Library is situated at 248 Moetapu Bay Road the use of which is free for those along Moetapu Bay Road. This is a multi-purpose building with a small gym area, an extensive library and is the venue for the Friday Night Men’s Club and is the legacy of Gary & Pauline Graham the libraries founders. The Library has a great selection of books and other resources, all of which have been generously donated by local residents. It is a wonderful community asset, please do use it. For details of access, please approach/contact any of the MCA committee members. Our thanks to current property owners Bruce and Diane Clark for continuing to open up this building for use by the Moetapu community.
The MCA support the library through an annual donation to the property owners and through the Boatshed Library Team which is a subcommittee of the MCA. In the first half of 2026 the Boatshed Library underwent a refresh leading up to it's 20th Anniversary celebration. It now also contains outdoor games for borrow, along with a children's corner with increased resources.
Thank you to the following individuals, groups and organisations for support with the revitilisation in 2026:
Baton Valley Trust for purchase of a projector and associated material for educational presentations, workshops and events
Havelock Lions Club for a donation towards costs
Floorpride Marlborough for preloved carpet and its stitching
Linkwater School for donation of a surplus projector screen
The Boatshed Library team who donated materials, skills and over 400 volunteer hours to the cause
With some tidal restrictions a community boat launching ramp and community jetty with facilities such as a fishing table, a swim ladder and ropes to assist in mooring alongside the pontoon are situated along Moetapu Bay Road. Please note that vehicles cannot be left parked at the launching area, but may be safely parked on the side of Moetapu Bay Road at the top of the entrance to the launching ramp or back at your residence. Boats with a shallow draft can also be launched on high tide at the Double Bay Reserve.
Starting opposite 350 Moetapu Bay Road and ending near 712, the track running above the road on Mt Cawte was formed by the MCA with a lot of help from Outward Bound watches who continue to support still today. Primarily it is an access track for the trapping of pests, but also doubles as a very pleasant, but for some, challenging, 3 to 4 hour walking track, with picnic seats and fantastic views over the Pelorus Sound and Mahakipawa Arm.
The Moetapu Bay Community Jetty is a valuable asset that is owned and maintained by locals, for locals - they’re an Incorporated Society, run by a committee made up of local volunteers.
The jetty is used for numerous water-based activities including boating, fishing and swimming. But it’s not just for boaties - during our storm-related road closures in 2022, it became our lifeline to the outside world. Water taxis were able to get people and supplies in and out, and we even had our mail delivered by boat.
Members of our community can contribute to its upkeep by becoming a member (or renewing your existing membership) - contact moetapubayjetty@gmail.com for a membership form today.
